Zilo Networks Inc., a Sutter Hill portfolio company, approached
me for help in developing an integrated entertainment network designed
specifically for the 15-million strong, tech-savvy U.S. college
market.
I worked closely with Zilo management to develop the overall concept
underlying the service; helped to identify and document requirements;
suggested, with the aid of extensive user research, how information
and interaction could be structured to appeal to the target audience;
assembled the development team; identified and negotiated with developers,
technology and systems vendors; guided the initial screen and interaction
designs that formed the guidelines governing the extension of the
service, and—last but not least, managed the development and
implementation effort.
Zilo Online is rich with audio visual content. As people use the
site, they can they can build a profile, creating a growing and
interlinked database of information.
A key part of this project was the site's "content architecture"
and the development and encoding of a staggering amount of content
The development team provided Zilo with templates, guidelines,
and other tools so they could work with a variety of internal and
external implementation specialists to develop and maintain the
extensive site in a consistent manner. This is my favorite type
of project because it brings into play every area of my expertise:
requirements and design, identity and brand development, content
development, interaction and visual design, and guidelines development.
