MSC Industries, Inc. had a requirement for a platform to demonstrate its revolutionary new digital music service concept. They had numerous concepts and ideas and they needed a venue to showcase them.

CDDMS is a database-driven Web site where users have the direct opportunity to utilize Internet connected devices to purchase, instantly listen, store, and customize their music from anywhere, anytime. CDDMS offers the convenience and wide selection expected from online music retailers as well as rich metadata proven to enhance sales by offering a full music data bank containing artist information, discography and industry news.

CDDMS encodes all music in the popular MP3 format. CDDMS stores customers' music on Sun servers with high speed OC-48 connectivity in class "A" data center facilities providing service for support of high quality streaming and rapid download. CDDMS manages customers' music files for life. Services include self service customer account creation along with preference options for presentation interface, file organization, and connectivity.

Part of our task was to develop an array of tools for the site, such as the user registration, merchant and content management systems. Interaction, presentation and graphic design also needed to be developed and integrated. The resulting interface was functional and easy to understand and use.

We also developed a working WAP interface along with a GUI download manager. The WAP interface allowed any WAP device to connect, authorize, access, activate play lists. Call back and direct to telephony play out functions were implemented to provide any place access to stored music.

A GUI download manager was created to provide a direct and efficient connection between the customers' music locker on CDDMS and a portable digital music player. The software allows users to select and download tracks and playlists. The software also manages storage on the local device.
